Who is this session for?

This session is designed for you if you feel physical tension holding you back at bedtime. It is especially helpful when your muscles feel tight and you need a gentle way to release the day's accumulated stress. Listen to it when you are ready to let your body completely unwind and drift into rest.

How does it unfold?

  1. at the startPreparationYou are reminded that you are in full control and that there is absolutely no pressure to succeed.
  2. around 2 minInductionYou gently shift your attention to simple sensations, like the weight of your blanket, letting your eyelids grow heavy.
  3. around 4 minDeepeningYou walk down a ten-step staircase in your mind, doubling your relaxation with every step toward a quiet underground lake.
  4. around 7 minThe CoreYou imagine your physical tension as a block of ice melting effortlessly into warm water, releasing a small stone that sinks into deep tranquility.
  5. around 12 minAnchoringYou learn a simple breathing cue to help your body easily find this profound calm again on future nights.
  6. around 14 minDriftingThe words slowly fade away into the quietness, leaving you to float peacefully into a deep sleep.

Why does it help you sleep?

This approach helps facilitate sleep by shifting your focus away from racing thoughts and onto soothing physical imagery. Imagining tension as melting ice encourages your muscles to relax naturally, without any forced effort. As your mind visualizes the sinking stone, your body mirrors this downward movement, gently guiding your nervous system into a state of deep, peaceful rest.

How to listen

Settle comfortably into your bed with the lights off, keeping the volume low enough to just barely hear the words. You can simply let go and allow yourself to fall asleep well before the recording ends.

Welcome to this self-hypnosis session… Auto-hypnosis is a completely natural state, just like when you are fully absorbed in a good book, and the rest of the world simply fades into the background… You keep total control at every moment, and there is absolutely nothing to succeed at here, no effort to make, no goal to reach… Your body rests on the bed, the air around you is quiet, and the pillow gently supports the weight of your head… Sleep may arrive during this sentence, or much later, or not at all tonight: in every case, you are right where you need to be, and there is nothing to catch up on… You can just let the mattress take all your weight, and allow the evening to unfold exactly as it wishes…

We can start by letting the attention gently narrow, just by noticing a few simple things around you and within you… You might become aware of a distant sound somewhere in the room, or perhaps the subtle, comforting weight of the blanket resting over your legs and your shoulders… Maybe you can feel the slight coolness or warmth of the air against your face, or the specific way your hands are resting beside you… If a noise passes outside, it is going somewhere, and you have nowhere to go, you can just let it drift by… And as you take a long, slow, comfortable breath in, and let it out entirely, your chest lowers just a little bit more, making room for a very gentle comfort to settle in…

Your eyelids might already feel pleasantly heavy, so heavy that they simply choose to stay closed all on their own, finding comfort in the dark… And as the breathing continues without you having to think about it, the attention can expand a little, or drift wherever it wants, following a thought or simply resting in the spaces between the thoughts…

Imagine, somewhere in the mind, a gentle, wide staircase going down… Ten stone steps leading toward a calm, warm, underground lake, hidden away from the world… With each step down, you can allow yourself to go twice as deep into this comforting relaxation…

Ten… stepping down, leaving the surface behind, leaving the day exactly where it belongs…

Nine… the air becomes a little softer, a little warmer, wrapping around you like a gentle blanket…

Eight… descending further, as the outside world fades into the distance, becoming less and less important…

Seven… twice as deep, twice as calm, with the shoulders dropping just a fraction of an inch…

Six… the muscles in your back just unwinding on their own, smoothing out effortlessly…

Five… halfway down, floating deeper into the quiet, feeling completely safe and secure…

Four…

What was just here will soon be long ago, and what is coming was already there, a little further than what remains…

Here, it is very quiet.

Three… stepping closer to the edge of the warm water, hearing the faint, gentle sound of stillness…

Two… almost there, the body feeling so incredibly heavy and relaxed…

One… arriving at the shore of this peaceful underground lake, ready to rest…

The water in this lake is perfectly still, beautifully clear, and wonderfully warm… You might imagine that any tension left in the physical body is like a block of winter ice, resting gently on the surface of this soothing, warm water… Tonight, no one is checking anything, not even you… You do not have to know how the ice begins to melt, it just happens naturally as it touches the warmth of the lake… The sharp edges soften, the frozen parts yield, and the solid ice slowly turns into fluid water… Melting away, dissolving into the vast, calm lake, releasing all the held energy…

And as the ice melts, perhaps a small, smooth, round stone that was resting inside it is suddenly set free… This little stone slips into the warm water, and begins to sink… Sinking slowly, gliding down through the clear water, surrounded by absolute tranquility… Going deeper, and deeper, into a much deeper sleep… Drifting down, so peacefully, so effortlessly, untouched by the currents… And as you watch it sink deeper into the quiet depths, it is so easy to rest deeply now… Even if sleep waits a little longer, your body is already resting perfectly, absorbing the quietness of the underground lake… The tension is gone, completely absorbed by the warm, welcoming water… Just gentle ripples fading into absolute stillness…

Your body knows exactly how to rest, it has always known how to repair and regenerate itself, cell by cell, breath by breath… You can trust this deep inner wisdom to take over completely, doing all the work while you simply observe or drift… And you can keep this pathway open for the future… Whenever your head touches this pillow and you exhale slowly three times, this calm can return, at its own pace… The mind remembers this quiet place, and the body remembers how to let go of the ice, how to let the stone sink into the warmth…

Time can stretch out now, becoming soft and flexible, bending around your comfort… Every minute of rest can count as an hour of calm… If you need to get up, you will naturally find all your alertness… But for now, there is nothing to do… Nowhere to be… Just the slow sinking… Deeper and deeper… The water is calm… Breathing is slow… Everything is quiet… Letting go entirely… Drifting away… So peaceful… So deep… Sinking down… Resting now…
