Metaphor self-hypnosis: A symbolic story that carries you into deep relaxation.

Who is this session for?

This session is designed for anyone feeling weighed down by the ordinary stress and tension of the day. It is perfect to listen to when your mind feels cluttered and you need a gentle pause to unwind before settling into a restful evening.

How does it unfold?

  2. around 1 minInductionYou are guided to notice the gentle rhythm of your breath and the comforting physical sensations around you.
  3. around 2 minDeepeningA slow countdown from ten to one gently leads you down a safe path toward profound relaxation.
  4. around 4 minThe River MetaphorYou visualize a calming stream where any lingering thoughts become leaves floating gracefully away on the water.
  5. around 7 minAnchoringThe session reinforces your natural ability to find this quiet space, allowing the calm to settle in your body.
  6. around 8 minReturnA gentle count from one to five brings your awareness back, leaving you refreshed and at peace.

Why does it help you sleep?

By visualizing a river that naturally slows down, your mind learns to mirror this gentle pacing, releasing the rapid thoughts of the day. This soothing imagery gives your active attention a simple focal point, keeping it away from everyday worries. As you watch the imaginary leaves drift away, your body responds by dropping tension from your shoulders and muscles. This process creates a clear, open space in your mind, which can easily facilitate a peaceful transition into deep rest.

How to listen

Find a comfortable resting position and listen at a low, soothing volume during your evening wind-down. Even though the session includes a gentle return to awareness at the end, it is completely fine if you drift off to sleep before it finishes.

This is a hypnosis session to take a moment of calm when the ordinary stress of the day is felt. Hypnosis is simply a natural state, much like being fully absorbed in a daydream or a very good book. You remain completely in control of this experience from beginning to end. Your mind might wander far away, or you might listen to every single word, or just rest gently, and all of these are perfectly fine. There is no wrong way to do this at all.

You are resting here, the air is moving in and out, the surface beneath you is supporting your weight…

You can just allow your lungs to fill at their own natural pace, expanding slowly, and then letting the air gently drift back out, carrying away a little bit of tension…

You can begin to notice a few things around you. Notice three things you can feel… the temperature of the air on your skin, perhaps cool or warm… the gentle pressure of your body resting against the surface… and the slight, rhythmic movement of your chest as you breathe…

Notice two things you can hear… the calm sound of my voice… and perhaps the quiet stillness of the room around you…

And one thing you can do… is simply allow your eyelids to become wonderfully heavy, letting them close gently if they haven't already. Your chest rises and falls, the air flows naturally, and as this continues, your attention can widen slightly…

You can listen closely to my words, or let them drift by like background music. Imagine a gentle, safe path leading down toward a peaceful valley. I will count backward from ten to one, and with each number, you can just relax a little more.

Ten… taking a gentle step down, feeling a wave of comfort settling over your shoulders.

Nine… allowing unnecessary tension to melt away from your back and your arms.

Eight… you can always pause on one step to rest, and then drift twice as deep on the next.

Seven… settling further into this quiet space, feeling completely secure.

Six… completely at ease.

Five… halfway down the path, surrounded by a soft, pleasant atmosphere that feels like a gentle hug.

Four… moving deeper into comfort with every breath you take.

Three… nothing to do, nobody needing anything from you right now.

Two… almost there, breathing so easily and naturally.

And one… stepping gently into this serene, quiet valley.

In this valley, there is a gentle stream flowing smoothly over smooth river stones. What was here a moment ago will soon be long past, and what is about to come was already waiting, just a little further than what remains…

Here, everything is calm and safe.

The water might have been a bit rushed further up the mountain, bouncing over rocks and moving quickly… but down here, the river widens naturally, and the current slows down gracefully. You might see the water clearly, or just feel a sense of peace, or simply drift, and everything is fine. Sometimes, brightly colored leaves fall from the trees and land softly on the surface of the stream.

If a thought pops up, it can simply become another leaf floating away on the water, carried out of sight by the gentle current. If a sound occurs in the room, it only reminds you of how safe and quiet it is right here. The water just keeps flowing, taking away whatever no longer serves you today… and it is so easy to let go now… Just watching the leaves drift away, leaving behind a clear, open space in your mind. The sunlight dances on the surface, warming the air around you, bringing a deep sense of relief.

Your body naturally knows how to find this quiet center, restoring its own balance without any effort on your part. Somewhere in your body, a sense of space and lightness may continue to grow. Whenever you wish, you can think back to this quiet stream and allow this calm to return. Your shoulders can remember this relaxed feeling and naturally drop a little whenever you take a deep breath.

You might carry this deep relaxation with you into the evening, or it might just give you a brief, refreshing pause right now, and both are wonderful. If you drift slightly into sleep by accident, that is completely fine, but the real goal of this time is simply this conscious, soothing rest.

And now, it is time to gently bring this session to a close, returning to the present moment at your own pace. I will count from one to five, and with each number, you will feel more alert and refreshed.

One… becoming aware of the surface beneath you once again.

Two… feeling a gentle, revitalizing energy returning to your muscles, starting from your feet and moving up.

Three… taking a slightly deeper breath, filling your lungs with fresh, clean air.

You can take a long, refreshing breath right now, feeling a sense of clarity washing over your entire mind and body, reawakening your senses wonderfully…

Four… noticing the temperature of the room, the sounds around you, and the feeling of the space you are in.

And five… open your eyes at your own pace, feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of your day.
