The gradual fading of the oil lamp and the deepening silence mirror the natural process of falling asleep, guiding your body into a peaceful state of rest.

How to listen

Settle comfortably into your bed and keep the volume low enough to just hear the rustle of the parchment. Let the desert night carry you away, knowing it is perfectly fine to fall asleep before the story ends.

That evening, the heat of the day was slowly leaving the curved red sandstone walls of the Library of Sands…

Elara sat quietly at her olive-wood desk, threading a fine linen string through the thick leather cover of a small journal.

The vast, soothing silence of the desert wrapped around the canyon, settling gently into the cooling air…

A single oil lamp burned on her table, its golden, flickering light casting soft, long shadows across the arched shelves.

The air held the dry, comforting scent of old paper and warm rock, a fragrance undisturbed for centuries…

A faint, soft crunch of footsteps on the fine sand outside drew her attention toward the archway.

A traveler appeared, draped in deep indigo linen that carried the dust of a long, peaceful journey…

He stood just beyond the threshold, his face illuminated by a gentle, tired smile.

There was no hesitation in his presence, only a deep and quiet calm…

He stepped inside with slow reverence, placing a small, embroidered leather pouch on the wooden counter.

In a low, steady voice, he asked if he might consult an ancient map of the night winds, to guide the next quiet stretch of his journey…

Elara nodded softly, setting her needle down on the desk.

She rose and glided between the towering, rock-carved shelves…

Her movements were slow and deliberate as she brushed her fingertips against the spines of leather-bound scrolls and wooden cases.

The golden, flickering light of the oil lamp seemed to follow her, warming the deep reds and browns of the bindings…

She listened to the faint rustle of silk and heavy parchment as she searched, breathing in the dry scent of old paper and warm rock.

Deep within a shadowed alcove, her hand found a cool, heavy copper tube…

She slid it out carefully, feeling the smooth, polished metal beneath her palms, knowing it held the delicate parchment the traveler sought.

Returning to the front desk, Elara gently unrolled the map across the wooden surface…

The traveler traced the faded ink lines with his eyes, his expression softening with quiet gratitude.

In exchange for this guidance, he opened his embroidered pouch and offered a handful of rare blue desert tea leaves…

Elara smiled, lighting a small cast-iron stove in the corner of the room.

Soon, the soft bubbling of water joined the vast, soothing silence of the desert…

She poured the hot water over the leaves, and a delicate floral aroma filled the air, mingling with the scent of ancient dust.

They shared the steaming cups in complete, comfortable silence, savoring the gentle warmth in the cool evening air…

When he was finished, the traveler gave a slow, respectful nod, rolled his map, and vanished back into the cool desert night, as quietly as he had arrived.

Elara remained alone at her desk, the gentle warmth of the ceramic cup still resting between her hands…

She carefully gathered her binding tools, placing the needle and linen thread into a small wooden drawer.

The carved walls of the library seemed to sigh with contentment as the night air cooled the canyon rock…

She reached for the oil lamp, slowly lowering the small woven wick.

The golden, flickering light softened, then faded, leaving only the silver glow of the stars filtering through the archway…

The vast, soothing silence of the desert was absolute now, wrapping the canyon in a deep, undisturbed stillness.

Everything was perfectly at rest, settling softly into the quiet, welcoming embrace of the night…
