Why does it help you sleep?

When you wake up at night, your brain often tries to solve problems or worry about the next day. By giving your attention a sequence of random, neutral images, this technique prevents your mind from building stressful stories. It mimics the natural, scattered thoughts you experience right before falling asleep. This gentle distraction helps your nervous system realize you are safe, allowing your body to naturally slide back into rest.

How to listen

Start this recording at a very low volume as soon as you wake up in the night, keeping your eyes closed in your favorite sleeping position. You do not need to stay awake to hear every word, as it is perfectly fine to drift off before the session ends.

You might be wondering how long you have been awake, and that is perfectly normal… but you don't need to look at the time, or figure anything out right now. Simply lying here with your eyes closed… feeling the soft sheets around you… is already giving your body the rest it needs.

Take a moment to feel your body settling deeper into the mattress… noticing the comfortable points of contact beneath your back and your legs…

Let's take a nice, slow breath in… filling your chest and your belly with quiet night air… and slowly breathing out to release any tension…

Take another gentle breath in… feeling your shoulders relaxing even more as you do… and let the air flow out naturally and smoothly…

And one last deep breath in… letting a wave of comfort wash over you… and slowly exhale… knowing that if anything needs your attention, you will be fully present… but for now, there is nothing to do.

You can just let your breathing return to its own natural, gentle rhythm… you don't have to force anything at all… because your body already knows exactly how to rest.

Notice the comforting sensation of heaviness beginning to spread through your limbs… down your arms… and all the way to your toes…

The mattress fully supports your weight… allowing every single muscle to let go without any effort… sinking just a little bit deeper into the soft surface beneath you.

Imagine a soft, delicate feather… slowly drifting down through the calm, quiet air of the night… gently swaying from side to side.

The heavier your body feels sinking into the bed… the lighter your thoughts become… just like that feather floating gracefully downward.

It slowly drifts… peaceful and safe… until it lands gently on the soft ground. And any sounds you might hear from the house or outside… are just natural parts of the night… simply helping you drift even deeper into comfort.

When the mind is busy, we can give it a gentle, aimless path to follow… just simple pictures passing by… with no story to figure out.

I will name a few things… and you can just let each image appear for a moment… allowing yourself to… let go… and then fade away.

A smooth, round stone resting in the palm of your hand… feeling comfortably cool and solid against your skin…

A dark blue ceramic cup… catching a small glint of light on its smooth edge… sitting quietly on a wooden table…

A single green leaf… floating gently on the surface of a clear, still pond… barely creating a ripple as it rests…

An old wooden chair… standing peacefully on a sunny porch… with the quiet warmth of the afternoon settling into the wood…

A soft, fluffy cloud… moving slowly across a vast, quiet sky… changing shape so gradually that you hardly notice…

A thick wool blanket… folded neatly… offering a sense of warmth and complete comfort. Just simple things… passing through… bringing a deep sense of calm to your resting mind.

You can gently touch your thumb and index finger together for just a moment… as a quiet signal to your body that it is safe to rest deeply.

Every time you listen to this session… your mind will learn to quiet down more quickly and easily… finding this peaceful heaviness right away.

Whenever you wake up in the night… simply lying here, feeling safe and heavy… is restoring your energy for tomorrow.

And now… you can drift into sleep… or simply enjoy this deep rest for a few more moments… either way is perfectly fine.

Everything is quiet… everything is settling down… as you continue to slide deeper into this comfortable space…

Letting go of all thoughts… drifting slowly downward… completely safe and comfortably supported by the quiet night…

The music will continue to play softly for a little while… watching over you as you rest…
