Why do I wake up at 3am?

Who is this session for?

This session is designed for anyone who wakes up in the middle of the night and struggles to fall back asleep. It is perfect for those moments when your mind starts racing in the dark and you need a gentle guide to return to a peaceful slumber.

How does it unfold?

  1. at the startOpening and ReassuranceThe voice reassures you that simply resting in bed is enough, using slow breaths to remove any pressure to sleep.
  2. around 1 minHeaviness InductionYou are guided to focus on your eyelids, letting them become comfortably heavy as you settle into the quiet room.
  3. around 3 minMental CalmingA continuous, gentle body scan keeps your mind occupied without stimulating it, making your limbs feel wonderfully supported.
  4. around 5 minThe Safe DescentYou visualize walking down a soft, velvet-carpeted staircase while counting down from ten, increasing your sense of security with each step.
  5. around 9 minReinforcement AnchorThe session links the physical feeling of your head on the pillow to this deep calm, helping you return to it easily during future awakenings.
  6. around 10 minDrifting into SleepThe words slow down and fade into long pauses, allowing you to seamlessly glide back into a deep, uninterrupted rest.

Why does it help you sleep?

This approach helps you fall back asleep by immediately removing the frustration of being awake. By occupying your attention with a monotonous body scan and a slow countdown, it prevents racing thoughts from taking over. The visualization of a safe downward descent physically encourages your muscles to release tension and your breathing to slow down. Ultimately, creating a physical anchor with your pillow trains your mind to associate nighttime awakenings with immediate comfort.

How to listen

Keep this recording ready at a very low volume so you can simply press play without looking at a bright screen. Lie in your most comfortable sleeping position, and remember that it is perfectly fine to drift off long before the session ends.

Everyone knows that quiet moment in the middle of the night when the house is still… and you find yourself awake. Just lying here and feeling the warmth of your bed under your body… is already resting deeply. There is nothing you need to achieve right now… just allowing yourself to be exactly where you are. If anything requires your attention, you will be fully awake and present… but for now, you can simply rest. Let us begin by taking a slow, comfortable breath in through your nose, letting your belly softly rise, and exhale gently to settle in…

Take another long, peaceful breath, feeling the cool air flowing all the way down into your chest, and release it completely into the room…

And one more deep, slow breath, giving your body full permission to sink completely into the mattress, breathing out any lingering thoughts…

Your body already knows how to rest… it remembers the familiar weight of sleep. When you notice your breath slowing down all by itself… you can simply welcome it. Perhaps you can become aware of your eyelids… and how they might feel a little heavier with every breath you take. Every gentle sound you might hear in the quiet room… simply becomes a comforting signal that it is safe to let go even more. Your eyelids might feel so heavy and wonderfully comfortable… that it becomes delicious to keep them closed. Allowing the tiny muscles around your eyes to soften naturally, as a soothing wave of relaxation flows down your face…

I don't know if you will feel the heaviness more in your right arm… or your left arm first… but you can just let your awareness glide over your body. Moving smoothly… from your right thumb… index finger… middle finger… ring finger… pinky… palm… wrist… forearm… elbow… upper arm… and shoulder… Flowing over to the left side… left thumb… index finger… middle finger… ring finger… pinky… palm… wrist… forearm… elbow… upper arm… and left shoulder… Letting this gentle attention drift down your back… your right leg down to the toes… your left leg down to the toes… Feeling the entire back of your body melting into the mattress, completely held by the sturdy bed beneath you…

In your mind's eye, or simply as a feeling, you might imagine standing at the top of a beautiful, carpeted staircase… bathed in a soft, warm, amber twilight. It is a clear and deeply safe place. There are ten steps, and with each step down, you can allow yourself to drift twice as deep into this velvet peace. Stepping down to ten… feeling completely safe and supported. Nine… letting go of any thoughts, letting them drift away like leaves on a slow river… Eight… your body feeling pleasantly heavy, sinking deeper into the soft cushions beneath you, completely effortless…

Seven… and six… the soft, clear light around you is so warm, so protective, inviting you to simply rest… deeply and safely… Five… halfway down, feeling a profound tranquility washing over you, allowing your mind to let go completely… Four… and three… heavier and heavier… drifting beautifully into this quiet space… Two… almost at the bottom… feeling so incredibly peaceful, perfectly safe in this gentle atmosphere…

And one… stepping off the last step into a space of pure, velvety rest. You might notice how simply feeling the gentle pressure of your pillow against your head… is enough to bring you right back to this profound calm. This soft pillow is your anchor… a welcoming reminder that you can always return to this peace whenever you wake in the night. Every time you listen, it will be easier to let this deep rest settle in effortlessly. There is nothing left to do… nowhere to go… just this beautiful feeling of sinking and drifting downward. The music will continue, softly watching over you as you drift safely further away…

Drifting down… deeper… and deeper… as you let go completely, beautifully supported by the comforting stillness of the night…

So heavy… so peaceful… just resting now, simply allowing whatever happens to happen, naturally, effortlessly, and easily…
